Matrade Partners with Wayfair for US Furniture Market Expansion 

On December 24, the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) announced a strategic partnership with global e-commerce giant Wayfair to help Malaysian furniture exporters, including office chair manufacturers, gain a larger share of the US$200 billion US furniture market . This collaboration aims to accelerate digital transformation among local furniture producers and specifically targets the US market where online sales now represent over US$115 billion annually. 

"Malaysia's furniture players continue to prove their capabilities and competitiveness, as they are known for producing high-quality furniture backed by a strong commitment to sustainability," said Matrade CEO Abu Bakar Yusof. "The current global tariff scenario has given new opportunities to Malaysia, with US buyers shifting sourcing to countries like ours."   

Export Performance Remains Strong 

Between January and November 2025, Malaysia's share of furniture exports to the US increased from 47.0% to 49.5%, with export value growing 3.8% year-on-year to RM5.7 billion . Office chairs represent a significant portion of this trade, with Malaysia positioned as the sixth-largest US furniture supplier overall. 

Market Outlook and Industry Trends 

The Malaysian office chair market is valued at approximately $800 million in 2025 and is projected to reach $1.35 billion by 2033, growing at a CAGR of 5.2% . Key growth drivers include: 

- Rising demand from Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and startup ecosystems 

- More and more multinational corporations are establishing regional headquarters in Kuala Lumpur 

- Growing middle-class disposable income driving demand for premium ergonomic solutions

Manufacturing hubs are emerging in urban centers like Penang and Johor, with Selangor's Kota Kemuning and Sungai Buloh areas becoming concentrated locations for office chair producers .
